If you suspect that you do have a yeast infection, but you are not sure (you have never had a yeast infection), it is wise to see professional help. Most women think that they do have a yeast infection, but misdiagnose themselves and end up taking medicine and prescriptions that will cure yeast infections only to find out that they are creating bacterial resistance. Creating bacterial resistance is the worst thing you could do because what is happening is you are building up resistance so if do by chance get infected, it will be much harder to cure. It is important to know the signs of yeast infection so that you can properly diagnose yourself.

Common signs of a Yeast Infection

1. Feels like a burning and itching sensation around your vagina and vulva. The itching may not be present, but can make it uncomfortable to walk.
2. Looks like a clumpy white discharge that has been known to resemble ricotta cheese. The color can be light yellow to clear.
3. Smells like beer or bread. Many people have said that it smells very similar to yeast. However the two strands of yeast are completely different types of bacteria (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

As I said earlier, its important to not misdiagnose a yeast infection. Many people believe that the burning sensation they are feeling may be the beginning stages of a yeast infection, however a majority of the cases may be a Urinary Tract Infection. In the case of a Urinary Tract Infection, the bacteria are attacking the urethra and not the vagina. If you experience the burning only during urination, or see a discharge during urination, you may have a Urinary Tract Infection instead. It is important to see a doctor as soon as possible to prevent further complications.
